CCUSD is among the many California school districts facing enormous challenges over the next few years as the state withholds public school funding. These actions have already resulted in staff reductions and cuts to school programs. CCUSD will need to generate more revenue and carefully manage spending to prevent disruption to student achievement.
Tasked with prioritizing fiscal allocations, CCUSD Board of Education leaders must possess knowledge of governance, financial management skills, an understanding of student and staff experience at all levels, and strong community relationships to guide the district to a stable footing.
“I believe in California’s promise of a high‑quality public education, where success for all students is fully realized through a culture of care in fully funded schools. When our scholars feel heard, safe, validated, and supported, they thrive—and so does our city,” Loredo said. “A nurturing school environment creates positive energy that extends far beyond the classroom. My priority is to strengthen CCUSD’s financial foundation to preserve our exceptional school system while advancing sustainable, student‑centered progress.”
“Stephanie Loredo is exactly the kind of experienced, values-driven leader our public institutions need right now. She understands that strong governance, fiscal responsibility, and deep partnership with our communities are the foundations to student success,” Los Angeles City Elected Leader Ysabel Jurado said. “Her commitment to equity and care for students and educators will make CCUSD stronger today and better prepared for the future.”
Finance and Governance
Loredo plays a key role in supporting and advocating for funding measures that have a lasting impact on student outcomes, including:
- A $358 million general obligation bond (Measure E), passed by voters in March 2024, to modernize and build facilities
- A $2.4 million per year parcel tax renewal (Measure O), passed in November 2024, to retain teachers and support smaller class sizes
- A $2.5 million grant from the Culver City government that was awarded in Fall 2025
Loredo is the only Governing Board member and 2026 candidate with extensive large-scale fiscal experience, stewarding more than $300 million annually in national media investment during her professional career. Additionally, to help CCUSD preserve funds, Loredo is the only board member to waive compensation for 2026.
Loredo’s governance record includes improving direction, accountability, and transparency through a fully digital policy manual; leading partnerships on the CCUSD-Culver City government liaison committee; engaging with the community through public forums; founding the annual Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Owned Business Night Market; and expanding culturally affirming school traditions that strengthen a sense of belonging.
Community
Since her election to the CCUSD school board in 2022, Loredo has focused on building and strengthening a culture of care, centered on three pillars — Achievement, Belonging, and Community:
- Achievement: Loredo champions differentiated student support, equitable access to rigorous and inclusive curricula, and clearer communication between the district and the public. Her leadership has contributed to improved student attendance, stronger academic participation and performance, and reductions in suspensions and expulsions.
- Belonging: Loredo advances practices that authentically serve historically marginalized students and families, including students with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ students, English learners, foster and unhoused youth, and Black, Brown, and low‑income communities. She supports district‑wide systems that elevate justice, equity, and inclusion, including affinity graduation ceremonies and strengthened special education support systems.
- Community: Loredo focuses on fostering trust and collaboration, advocating for safe and sustainable school facilities, and supporting student and staff wellness in a region facing affordability challenges. She regularly attends and participates in more than 200 CCUSD-associated events and meetings yearly.
Loredo made history in 2022 as the first Filipina American elected to citywide office on the Westside of Los Angeles. In December 2025, her colleagues appointed her president of the Board of Education, reflecting trust in her leadership during a period of growth, modernization, and significant investment in the district.
Loredo is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and has completed professional development through the California School Boards Association's Master's in Governance and the University of San Francisco Public Leadership certificate programs.
