Culver City Unified School Board Vice President Brian Guerrero announced the launch of his 2026 reelection campaign on Tuesday morning. Guerrero is one of three incumbents currently running for reelection — alongside Board President Stephanie Loredo and Board Member Triston Ezidore.

The following is the message from Guerrero sent this morning announcing his campaign, edited for clarity and readability.

Hello, friends and neighbors!

I’ve received several calls and messages recently, asking if I’m going to run for re-election. Well… of course I am — the work isn’t done yet and, I won’t quit until it is!

My last 3½ years as a Culver City Unified School District School Board Trustee have been interesting, to say the least. Lingering after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, attacks on our students and staff by toxic national political movements, aging classrooms and facilities, ongoing funding challenges, and deep, deep structural issues in a school district that had been run more like a family business rather than a $100+ million dollar organization with thousands of students, families, and employees depending on it.

And we’ve made tremendous progress, with changes to district administration, more efficient fiscal management and hiring practices, a new facilities bond and a renewed parcel tax to help stabilize revenues, better relations with our labor partners, improved outcomes for most students (but not all students, and that’s part of the work still left to do…), and — maybe most important — a growing sense of confidence in the community that CCUSD is a great place for their kids to learn and grow.

I entered the race in 2022 as an unknown to many people. I hadn't been super active in city politics or even in the school community beyond supporting AVPA and serving on the district LCAP committee. Early endorsements by the Culver City Democratic Club, the Culver City Federation of Teachers, and the Association of Classified Employees helped me to get people to open their doors and take my campaign seriously.

Once folks had the opportunity to talk with me and to get to know me, they saw that I had important skills and knowledge as a 25-year educator, activist, and union organizer. I get schools and school districts, and I could draw on my experiences and many connections to help move CCUSD forward. In November 2022, Culver City voters honored me with more votes than any other candidate for school board, and I’ve been working every day since then to deliver on the promise of better outcomes for students and staff.

We’ve made so much progress… and we have so much more work to do. The lessons we’ve learned and changes we’ve made are still fresh. We need to stay the course, continue the work, continue focusing on student opportunities and outcomes, continue working with our labor partners in meaningful ways, and continue building the trust and confidence of the community in our schools and district.

Each of you has been a friend, a thought partner, a constructive critic, a source of unconditional support and positivity, or maybe all of the above. I thank you for believing in me, believing in us, believing in CCUSD, and I’m asking for your support again now and for the next four years. The work isn’t done yet, and I won’t quit until it is, but I’ll need your partnership to keep moving forward.

I want to thank you again for all of your continued support and encouragement. Culver City is an amazing place, and we have amazing schools with great students, great programs, and great teachers and staff. Together, let’s make sure they have the great leadership and support they need.
