On October 16, Culver City Neighbors United (CCNU) announced the endorsments of Jeannine Wisnosky Stehlin and Kimberley Griffin for City Council and Darrel Menthe for School Board in the November 3 election.
CCNU endorses Jeannine and Kimberley because they listen to residents and small businesses and make community-based decisions, not decisions driven by special interests or lobbying groups. CCNU endorses Darrel because he will restore confidence in the School Board and put students and academic excellence first.
A win for Jeannine and Kimberley would make history: the first time two women have been elected to the Culver City Council in the same election. Only six women have served on the Council in the city's 109-year history.
"This election is our chance to change the direction of our city and our schools," said Jamie Wallace, president of CCNU. "All three are longtime community members who have worked for years to help Culver City thrive."
City Council: Jeannine Wisnosky Stehlin and Kimberley Griffin
Jeannine, a Culver City parent, nonprofit consultant, small business owner, and longtime SAG-AFTRA member, served eight years on the Cultural Affairs Commission and co-founded grassroots groups focused on parks, neighborhoods, and schools. Kimberley, Culver City's first Black female police officer, spent 20 years in law enforcement focused on alternatives to incarceration, homelessness, and human trafficking, and volunteers with Sister Cities and Habitat for Humanity.
They will focus on the quality-of-life issues residents care about most: supporting the small businesses that anchor our community, caring for our parks, working to solve homelessness, keeping every neighborhood safe, improving our streets and crosswalks, and adding affordable housing along commercial corridors while giving residents a voice in how their neighborhoods grow.
School Board: Darrel Menthe
Darrel, a practicing attorney, Planning Commissioner, Executive Director of the Downtown Business Association, and Culver City parent, will restore the board's focus on students, sound budgets, and an excellent education. He is advocating to bring back honors classes at the middle school and high school, and a return to the academic excellence that draws families to Culver City.
